British Endodontic Society
We are well-established society, formed in London in 1963 to promote the interchange of ideas on all aspects of Endodontics to ensure that the dental health of the nation is both maintained and improved. The Journal of the British Endodontic Society was established in 1967 which became the International Endodontic Journal in 1980.
The British Endodontic Society (BES) promotes Endodontology at undergraduate and postgraduate level by sponsoring prizes and research grants of various amounts. It also has prizes for poster abstracts on new research undertaken in the United Kingdom. The BES also supports the lifelong career of those interested in endodontology, whether they are a general dental practitioner, an academic or a Specialist.
The BES recently instituted The Early Career Group (ECG), a sub-section of the society. The aim of the ECG is to help further the education and training for dental professionals at the early stages of their career, who share a passion and interest in Endodontology. The Society is represented on numerous academic boards that define the principles and policies of endodontics in the United Kingdom and beyond.
Members of the BES were involved in the formation of the ESE and had considerable influence on its development. The BES successfully hosted two ESE Congresses, one in London in 1993 and one in Edinburgh in 2009, both bringing internationally renowned speakers to the United Kingdom. In 2018 it was awarded the honour of being the organiser and host of the World Endodontic Congress 2024 in Glasgow.
Our National Annual Meetings:
The BES organises two annual meetings, both well attended and attracting speakers from across the globe, which are open to non-members too.
- The Spring Scientific Meeting, held in London every March
- A Regional Meeting, held in various cities across the United Kingdom every November
We have members who are at all different stages of their career, and we welcome membership enquiries from all those interested in endodontology.
